Chris Davis – Martial Body – Heavy Body
Description Of Martial Body – Heavy Body
Want to learn to relax, soften and release bound tissues? Want to feel unusually heavy when you grapple or strike someone? This is the course for you.
The ‘Weight’ in Technique
We often think that fighters or Martial Artists need to be muscular, well conditioned athletes to be successful in their given sport or style. At the same time combat sports athletes are often famed if they have ‘heavy hands’, or crushing grappling ‘pressure’. Perhaps paradoxically, we often see is that it is not the most muscular and well developed athletes that have the heavy hands, indeed sometimes it is the slightly overweight or deconditioned individuals. This hints towards something other than muscular development going on.
Weight = Release
Actually, in order to transfer our weight we need to understand how to release the tension that may be acting like a brake or stopping much of it before it leaves our body. This is the focus of the Heavy Body Foundations Course. Heavy Body is the process of releasing tension and connecting with the resulting freedom and weight that results. Once this has been achieved you feel MUCH heavier to your training partners and opponents.
The Heavy Body Process
To achieve the Heavy Body, we use specific techniques that utilize our the body, breathing, awareness and movement to find and release unwanted tension. This process involves methods of swinging the limbs (Suburi), breathing and connecting to the out breath, awareness, floor work and partner training. All of it is focused on helping us to identify and release unwanted tension. You will then be able to explore the feeling you get from this training in your martial art.
Its not just about fighting…
There is another big upside to this training relates to our health and the rehabilitation of niggling injuries. As we go through the process of releasing tension we begin to find habitually tight areas, which are often either the source of, or caused by, injury. As we slowly release we begin to allow the area of the body to recover and heal.
Heavy Body Foundations
Heavy Body foundations is the first section of the MartialBody Method and the information in this course will begin you on your path towards building the attributes of the finest martial artists on the planet. Structured in a deliberate and easy to follow way, HeavyBody Foundations and the techniques presented WILL change your body, and how you view Martial Arts development. The HeavyBody is an attribute that we see in many top martial artists, especially grapplers, and strikers who are known to have ‘Heavy Hands’. By training in these methods, you too can expect to develop a refined use of your weight in your chosen martial art or combat sport.
Heavy Body | An Overview
- Removing Tension
We carry unwanted Tension around with us all the time and this limits our ability to utilize our weight. Heavy Body Training will resolve this. - Using our own Weight
We use our own bodyweight to release tension and open the joints of the body so that they are freer. This produces deep health benefits as well as usable body mechanics for combat. - Healthy Joints
Heavy Body training helps us to release tension around the body. As a result the joints will be gently released of tension or sticking points increasing range of motion and joint health. - Precise, Focused, Pressure.
When your Body is constantly expressing the heavy Body attribute, you can target your weight to any point on your opponent. This can create crushing pressure. - Heavy Hands
Far from being a ‘gift’ some fighters have , Heavy Hands are a quality that can be trained through understanding of softness and our ability to cast our weight into our target. But the first thing to get is a ‘Heavy Body’ - Aaaannd Relax
Understanding the tension in our bedy, how it affects our movement, and how to resolve it has a big supplimentary benefit. It allows us to recognise and resolve tension so as to increase relaxation and reduce stress.
